We are organizing an online discussion on Understanding Economic Statistics with reference to Nepalese Economy on coming Saturday(June 27, 2020). The purpose is to discuss how the statistics are produced in Nepal and how to understand them properly.

Recessions in the World History

• During the last 150 years, the world has experienced 14 recessions in 1876, 1885, 1893, 1908, 1914, 1917-21, 1930-32, 1938, 1945-46, 1975, 1982, 1991, 2009, and 2020.
• While the longest recession occurred after the World War I during 1917 to 1921, the worst recession was during 1945/46 after the World War II. 
• The recession in 2020 engendered by the Covid-19 crisis is the worst one after the Second World War Crisis. 
• While there was no global recession during the 1950s and 1960s, the following five decades saw a global recession again in almost every decade.
