Recessions in the World History

  • During the last 150 years, the world has experienced 14 recessions in 1876, 1885, 1893, 1908, 1914, 1917-21, 1930-32, 1938, 1945-46, 1975, 1982, 1991, 2009, and 2020.
  • While the longest recession occurred after the World War I during 1917 to 1921, the worst recession was during 1945/46 after the World War II. 
  • The recession in 2020 engendered by the Covid-19 crisis is the worst one after the Second World War Crisis. 
  • While there was no global recession during the 1950s and 1960s, the following five decades saw a global recession again in almost every decade.
